The Loophole

/1

Lorcan finds a box in the woods. He’s a retired (Medical Retirement) archeologist who suffered from a fall when out on an expedition twenty years ago.

Unable to open the box, he takes it back to his home. Staying up late nights trying to figure out what’s inside. He soon learns that it’s a Loop. However, it’s not taking him back in time. It’s aging everyone around him instead.

Lorcan found a wooden box, buried between the crook of an oak tree in the woods. He only noticed the edge because it reminded him of a pattern on his mother’s pendant. The humidity made it almost impossible to see through his glasses as he wiped away fog.

He slowly dug around the box with his spindly, thin fingers, like an archeologist, carefully unearthing one of the wonders of the world. Filled with excitement. The box was as long and as thin as his forearm and had an odd rivet on the base. He noticed it had some weight but felt very dense and compact.

While he examined the surface with great attention, placing his finger in a perfectly smooth space, he felt a strange sense of familiarity, like when you finally try on a hat that fits your head perfectly.

As he overturned the box unable to find an opening, he noticed a small engraving, shaped like a butterfly but with two cracks above.
